Bangkok extravaganza will promote Thai fashion industry 'to the world' (02/04)
In an effort to promote Bangkok as an international fashion centre, the government and the private sector have joined forces to organize the Bangkok Fashion City Extravaganza, scheduled for February 2004.
The extravaganza is one of a number of events the public sector has conceived to promote Thailand's textile industry. Dej Pathanasethapong, director of the Thai Garment Manufacturers' Association (TGMA), said the event would promote Thailand's fashion industry to the world.
Pathanasethapong also urged industry insiders to find ways to compete with textile giants Italy and China in terms of design and price.
The Bangkok Fashion City Extravaganza will feature an international fashion show and a fashion carnival with 400 models wearing both local and foreign designs. The show will be broadcast live on CNN and famous designers have been invited to participate.
The event is co-sponsored by four of Bangkok's largest shopping centres.
